Door curtain or window curtain: which detail does your room need?

They can share a palette, but they solve different design problems. Consider the opening before choosing the textile.

A window curtain and a doorway curtain can look related in a room, yet their fitting and everyday use are very different. Choosing between them begins with the opening you want to address, rather than the colour you like best.

A window treatment frames the view

Conventional window curtains usually hang from a pole or track. Their width allows for folds, their length is selected for the window arrangement and they are moved aside to control the view and light. Decorative fullness is part of their appearance.

When choosing a window treatment, think about the position of radiators, the way the window opens and the light you want throughout the day. A heavy textile is not automatically the right choice for every window. Its hanging position matters as much as its appearance.

A magnetic door curtain is fitted differently

SnugMag sits around a suitable door frame using a hook-and-loop fixing system. Its two centre edges form the passage, with a magnetic closure that helps them meet again when released. The curtain needs to be selected against the doorway and fixing surface rather than measured like a gathered window curtain.

The charcoal quilted textile creates a clear visual layer across the opening. It is a doorway product, not a replacement window blind, an external door or a required fire door. Check access and ventilation before deciding where it belongs.

Let the room guide the palette

If you use both types of curtain, they do not need identical fabric to feel coherent. Oatmeal linen at a window can soften the daylight while charcoal quilting gives a doorway a more defined outline. Ivory paint, oak and a small burgundy accent can connect the two without filling the room with matching pieces.

Keep the details calm. A neat window heading and a level doorway fitting line usually contribute more to the finish than adding several new decorative accessories.

Choose the job before the product

Ask what you want to change. Is it the light at a window, the appearance of an opening or the experience of passing between spaces? Check the source of any unwanted draught separately. A curtain is not a general fix for every cold spot in a home.

For a doorway, use our measuring guide and examine the full product gallery. For a window, choose a treatment designed and sized for that window's own arrangement.
